Irritable bowel syndrome, called Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a chronic condition characterized by abdominal pain and abnormal variations in the rate of stool accompanied by abdominal distension without physiological reasons for so doing.
The causes are unknown, has not found a single reason that generates the IRS, the most accepted reasons are motility and digestive sensitivity generated by psychological disorders on the other hand, it is believed that conditions such as food intolerances, gastroenteritis, hormonal and genetic factors may influence this condition.

Irritable Bowel Symptoms
- Diffuse or localized abdominal pain, which does not radiate and is similar to colic which happens after defecation
- Abdominal bloating
- Alteration in bowel habits, either constipation or diarrhea, as the two alternately
- Excessive gas (flatulence)
- Nausea
Vomiting
- Burning chest
- Feeling of incomplete evacuation
- Mucus in stools
Treatments for IBS
There are two ways to prevent episodes of IBS, these are lifestyle modifications and pharmacological in extreme cases. Follow a psychological therapy.
Hygienic-dietary measures:
- Temporarily avoid foods or foods that cause the onset or worsening symptoms.
- Avoid smoking
- Drink alcohol, coffee, soft drinks and tea
- Make exercise
- Increase fiber in the diet when IBS characterized by constipation
Pharmacological
Are used only when symptoms are very intense, these drugs are focused on the control of the same and only eat a limited time.
These cases are used: antispasmodics, motility stimulants, laxatives, antidiarrheals, antidepressants and anxiolytics.
