Treatment of Cataract Surgery

Treatment of Cataract SurgeryA cataract is a progressive loss of transparency of the lens.

This process, linked to oxidation of proteins that constitute it, is the result of a biochemical phenomenon that occurs with increasing age

The increase in life expectancy has led to an increase in the number of cases, so that today the removal of cataract surgery is one of the most performed in all hospitals in the world.

At an early stage the patient may receive:

1. A feeling of slight initial decrease and blurred vision
2. A reduction in contrast sensitivity
3. An alteration of the color discrimination capability
4. The presence of some halos around lights (egg night driving)
5. A glare in the presence of light is particularly strong (egg in full sun)

With the progression of cataracts, the clouding of feeling gradually increases and the reduction
Visual is so significant that over time the patient is no longer able to perform his employment or
Application in general.

When the cataract is fully developed, the patient is no longer able to manage; he loses his self-sufficiency and is expected – if not doing – in real blindness.

Despite the continuous progress in pharmacological research there are currently no drugs that can lead to a cure of cataract.

The only way to restore useful vision is its surgical removal and replacement of the opaque lens with an artificial lens perfectly transparent.

The most important development in surgical treatment of cataracts is probably represented today by
Introduction and implementation – on selected patients – the “artificial crystalline arrangement”.

These intraocular lenses which have already led to very satisfactory results in a significant number of patients will continue in future to extend their application to an increasingly large number of subjects so that they can retain at least part of the natural accommodative ability “of the natural lens.

Those who will benefit from this new technological frontier will be able to regain power lost in a corsodegli years, or continue to focus on objects far and near without the use of additional glasses.
